💡 For entertainment purposes only. FLAMES is a fun name game, not a prediction of your real relationship.
A FLAMES Calculator lets you enter two names and find out what the classic name game says about your relationship. It uses the letters in both names to give one of six results: Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, or Siblings.
This free online tool brings back a popular game that many people played with friends at school. Enter your name and another person’s name to get your result and learn what it means.
What Does FLAMES Stand For?
FLAMES is a name game that uses six letters to show a possible relationship between two people. Each letter has a different meaning.
| Letter | Full Form | Meaning |
| F | Friends | You are friends. |
| L | Lovers | The game gives a love-related result. |
| A | Affection | The game shows care or fondness. |
| M | Marriage | The game gives a marriage result. |
| E | Enemies | The game gives an enemies result. |
| S | Siblings | The game gives a sibling result. |
These six categories are the full form of FLAMES. The result depends on the letters left after removing common letters from both names and counting them according to the game’s rules.
This is a traditional name game for fun. It cannot tell whether two people will become partners, get married, or have a successful relationship.
How to Calculate FLAMES by Name
You can play the game with paper and a pen, or use an online flames calculator to get the result automatically. The traditional method follows these steps.
- Write both names: Enter the two names you want to compare.
- Find common letters: Look for letters that appear in both names.
- Cancel matching letters: Remove one matching letter from each name for every match.
- Count the remaining letters: Add the number of letters left in both names.
- Count through FLAMES: Use the total to remove letters from the word FLAMES, repeating the process until one letter remains.
- Read the result: The last letter gives the relationship category.
For example, if five letters remain in total, the count is five. You use that count to remove letters from FLAMES until only one letter is left.
An online FLAMES calculator follows this basic idea when it uses the traditional name-game method. Each matching letter is canceled from both names, and repeated matching letters can be canceled one pair at a time. Different versions may use different counting rules, so their results can sometimes vary.
FLAMES Example: Priya and Atish
Let’s use Priya and Atish as an example to understand the calculation.
Step 1: Write the names
Name 1: PRIYA
Name 2: ATISH
Step 2: Remove common letters
Both names contain the letters A and I. Cancel one matching A and one matching I from each name.
PRIYA becomes PRY.
ATISH becomes TSH.
Step 3: Count the remaining letters
PRY has 3 letters.
TSH has 3 letters.
Total remaining letters: 3 + 3 = 6.
Step 4: Count through FLAMES
Start with F, L, A, M, E, S and count six letters at a time. After removing a letter, continue counting from the next remaining letter.
Using the counting rule followed by this tool, the elimination rounds are:
Count 6: Remove S. Remaining letters: F, L, A, M, E.
Count 6: Remove F. Remaining letters: L, A, M, E.
Count 6: Remove A. Remaining letters: L, M, E.
Count 6: Remove L. Remaining letters: M, E.
Count 6: Remove E. Remaining letter: M.
Final result: Marriage
This example shows how two names turn into a result through letter cancellation and counting.

FLAMES Algorithm: How the Calculator Works
The game needs fixed rules to turn two names into one result. The traditional method uses the remaining letters from both names and a repeated elimination process.
A calculator can follow these steps automatically:
- Prepare the names: Convert the names to lowercase and keep only English letters from a to z. Spaces, numbers, and special characters are ignored.
- Match letters: Find common letters and cancel each matching pair once from both names.
- Calculate the count: Add the number of uncancelled letters from the two names.
- Apply the counting rule: Use the total to remove letters from FLAMES in order.
- Repeat the process: After removing a letter, continue counting from the next remaining letter until one remains.
- Display the result: Match the final letter with its relationship meaning.
This is the traditional method. The exact result depends on the counting positions and the rule used to start counting after a letter is removed.
The calculation code repeats the elimination process until one letter remains. If all letters cancel, for example when the names are identical or are anagrams such as TINA and NITA, this tool displays Siblings as its special-case result.
The result is a game outcome, not a scientific measure of love or relationship compatibility.
What Each FLAMES Result Means
Every result represents one of the six categories in the game. Here is what each letter means in simple words.
Friends (F)
Friends means the game places the two names in the friendship category. Friends is a common result among classmates and people who know each other.
Lovers (L)
Lovers means the game gives a love-related result for the two names. If you want to check a percentage instead, try our Love Calculator, which uses a different name-based method.
Affection (A)
Affection represents care, warmth, or fondness in the game’s categories. It does not show how much one person cares about another in real life.
Marriage (M)
Marriage is the game’s marriage category. It does not predict a wedding, confirm a future partner, or tell you whether a relationship will last.
Enemies (E)
Enemies is one of the traditional game outcomes. It should not be taken as a sign that two people dislike each other or cannot get along.
Siblings (S)
Siblings represents a brother-and-sister relationship in the game. It does not check family ties or confirm whether two people are related.
FLAMES Calculator vs Love Calculator
Both tools use names, but their results and calculation methods are different.
| Feature | FLAMES Calculator | Love Calculator |
| Input | Two names | Two names |
| Result | One of six categories | Love percentage |
| Main method | Letter cancellation and elimination | Name-based scoring method |
| Main purpose | Play the traditional name game | Get a fun love score |
| Result format | Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, or Siblings | Percentage score |
| Scientific proof | No | No |
A flames calculator percentage feature may be offered by some websites, but a percentage is not part of the traditional six-letter FLAMES result. The score depends on the extra method used by that particular tool.
Our Love Calculator gives a percentage through its own name-based calculation. You can compare the two tools for fun, but their results should not be treated as proof of real compatibility.
Tips for Getting Different Results
If you get different results from two websites, the reason may be the way each tool handles names or counting rules.
- Check the spelling: Make sure both names are entered correctly.
- Use the same names: Changing a spelling can change the remaining letter count.
- Check repeated letters: Matching copies of a letter are canceled one pair at a time when they appear in both names.
- Follow one counting method: The starting position and removal rule can change the final letter.
- Understand the result: A different result does not mean your relationship has changed.
FLAMES is meant for entertainment. No result can prove whether two people are truly compatible or predict their future relationship.
